Watermelon Sugar — Photoshoot with Towne Club + Jones Soda

This watermelon photoshoot emanated a vibrant and refreshing vibe that perfectly captured the essence of summer's joy. Set against a backdrop of lush greenery and under the radiant sun, this playful and colorful photoshoot celebrated the beloved watermelon in all its juicy splendor. Hannah (@jenningsmodeling) is such a lovely and kind girl with such a beautiful vibe that emulates from every pore of her being. I first met her at a photographer meetup in Toledo, Ohio early last year, which ended up being one of her first times modeling! She absolutely KILLED it, and… we’ve worked together a ton since then! I was SO excited that we were able to bring this dream concept of mine together!
While searching Amazon for cute inflatable floats for my backyard pool as photoshoot props, I came across the most adorable watermelon-themed inflatable kiddie pool. Luckily, kiddie pools tend to fit one adult perfectly :) This pool itself set off a creative explosion in my mind; I found some other cute props on Amazon right away to add to the vibe. I also stopped at Meijer on the way to Hannah’s house to pick up some baby’s breath flowers, some pink, red, and green-colored Jones Soda and some red-colored Towne Club Soda, which I didn’t realize was a local Detroit brand until I noticed the label during our shoot!

Towne Club Soda first popped up in Detroit with “Pop Shops,” also known as soda counters throughout the city. Towne Club’s “Pop Shops” had a much wider selection of flavors than what could be found at the local grocery store, so they became quite the popular and lucrative business. Customers would walk in, grab a wooden crate, and fill it with the soda, or pop, they so chose. Customers would then be encouraged to return empty wooden crates and glass bottles, making for a cyclic flow of customers. Towne Club is still made and bottled in Detroit, Michigan!
